Part 3: Athletics vs. Art

High school proved to be almost as challenging as middle school for a few reasons, but the main was balancing athletics and art. It became so challenging that I almost had to pick just one. Many of you may be thinking, “Why would you need to pick just one? You can totally do both!”

Well, the problem with doing these activities is time. Sports and art are very time consuming. But those weren’t the only two activities I was participating in at the time.

Yep, there was a third extracurricular activity.

Chorus. This may come as a surprise to a lot of you. But I am actually a decent singer and way back in the day, during my “concert” days with my sisters, I believed I would be a famous singer some day.

At the time our one of our obsessions was Shania Twain. For those of you who somehow don’t know who she is, I linked her website.

Spoiler: I’m still obsessed with Shania Twain.

Of course I believed I would be the next Shania Twain some day.

Another spoiler: That never happened.

So, here I am in high school participating in chorus, art and playing volleyball my freshman year. It was INSANE. I had absolutely no free time!

I would come home in the evenings and pass out on the couch with my cats from pure exhaustion.

In summary, I was so occupied with my extracurricular activities that I wasn’t enjoying my high school experience. So I had to make a decision.

I decided to give up my dream of becoming the next Shania Twain.

This is also the point where my art went on the back burner for a little while. But my camera stayed in hand throughout this whole experience and I have pictures to prove it.

I guess you can say I never really had to pick between art and athletics.

I never let go of my love for art and photography.

My high school senior photos on the left, and apparently I’ve been capturing proposals on camera since 2011! Haha!

I brought my digital camera and took pictures of everyone while we were waiting for our professional pictures…of course!
