Today I am highlighting the best engagement locations in Charleston! Everyone wants their engagement session to go perfect and sometimes it’s so stressful planning everything out. There are so many things you have to think about! But I am here to help you!
You wedding and engagement photographer should be there with you every step of the way. I love helping my couples pick their locations for their engagement sessions. And sometimes it makes more sense for me to pick! If I have a couple from out of state (which happens a lot), they often don’t know every place in Charleston. They don’t know what their options are! Since I really get to know my couples and their personalities, it makes it easy for me to think of locations that they will love. Whether it be the beach, downtown Charleston, or a plantation. I know the best spots!
So, let’s take a look at the best engagement locations in Charleston!
1. The Beach
Isle of Palms, Folly Beach and Sullivan’s Island are the 3 most popular beaches here in Charleston. They all 3 have unique features that make them beautiful. If you choose the beach for your engagement session, be sure to bring a towel, a jug of water (if you don’t like sand on your feet after), and a brush! The beach can get a little more windy than other locations so it’s nice to have those with you just in case.
2. The Plantations
Now, the catch is this: a lot of plantations in Charleston have a fee to take pictures there. This fee can range from $50 – $350 or more. So if you have the budget for that, it’s definitely worth it! You can spend hours wandering around the plantations. Boone Hall, Magnolia, and Middleton Place are a few of my favorites. And if you go at the right time all of the flowers will be in bloom!
The Charleston plantations are the perfect location for photos.
3. Hampton Park
If you love oak trees, Spanish moss, and geese, this will be the perfect place for you! This park is massive and there are tons of locations within the park for stunning portraits. There are also two gazebos that are spaced out on separate ends of the park. I love taking pictures at Hampton Park because of the shade (great during the summer) and you don’t have to worry about finding parking downtown!
4. Historic Downtown Charleston
This is pretty broad, I know. But that’s actually a great thing!
There are so many beautiful locations in Downtown Charleston to take your engagement photos at.
A few of my favorite streets are Tradd Street, Chalmers Street, Rainbow Row, and the streets surrounding The Battery. This gives you a mixture of pretty walls, historic cobblestone streets, opportunities for horse carriage photo bombs, and lots of flower window boxes. Basically, you can never go wrong with Downtown Charleston.
5. College Campus
There are a few major colleges in Charleston. And if you graduated from any of them or if they hold a special meaning to you, they would be a great place to take engagement photos! The Citadel is a beautiful campus, but you will need permission to take photos on the grounds. Especially if school is in session. College of Charleston and Charleston Southern are the other two main colleges in Charleston. They are both gorgeous and have plenty of photo opportunities for your engagement session!
These are just a few of my favorite Charleston engagement locations!
There are so many other spots that I didn’t even talk about, but if I listed them all we would be here reading for hours! If you have a location that you love and I didn’t list it, feel free to comment below and let me know! I would love to add to the list!
