Building Your Wedding Guest List is one of the most important parts of planning your wedding. You want all of the people you love there, but sometimes it’s hard to keep track. After helping my sister put together her wedding guest list, I found a few things that may be helpful for you!

I have to warn you..this part of the planning process can be time consuming. But it is necessary! So let’s dive in.

How to build your wedding guest list:

First you need to create a spreadsheet. You can use pen and paper or do it online. I recommend going to your google drive and creating a new excel sheet. It’s free and much easier to erase and modify your list!

Once you have opened up your new excel sheet create 3 separate columns. These columns can be labeled as anything you want, but I will be calling them 1, 2, and 3.

Now you are going to set your guest list into priorities. Column 1 is non-negotiable, must be there. Column 2 will be people you would love to have there. And Column 3 will be people who can be cut from the list if your number is getting too high or your budget won’t allow it.

In Charleston a lot of wedding venues have a maximum limit for the amount of people allowed in at one time.

So column 3 may come into play as your list grows more and more! Especially if you are having your wedding at a venue that does have a limit.

As you are listing off your guests sort them into the column that you think they belong. Your first column will most likely be filled with family and close friends. While your last column could be old friends you haven’t talked to in a while.

This has been the best way (in my opinion) to efficiently gather the people you want to attend your wedding.

It keeps everything organized and easy to adjust. And when you are sending over names for your name plates this will make it so much easier! In the long run it will save you time and money!

I hope this was helpful for you! If you are looking for more advice when it comes to all things weddings I have a whole category on my blog dedicated to that! But here are a few of my favorites:
