Beth: Beth grew up in Charleston and has had a deep love of weddings and flowers ever since she was a little girl. “I was that little girl picking flowers from the neighbor’s yard, making bouquets, clover crowns, and organizing weddings among the kids in the neighborhood, ” she says.
Beth has served in an official capacity in the wedding industry for over 30 years now and has owned her own business planning and designing Charleston weddings for over 13 years. Beth is a master floral designer and an accredited wedding planner. When she’s not designing flowers or planning weddings, Beth can be found in the garden, traveling the world, tasting wines, at Disney with family, mentoring others in the wedding industry, or spending time with her grandson.
Laura: Laura, like Beth, has been a planner since birth. She was always planning family outings, directing performances, and was known for throwing a truly epic tea party.
Laura of Charleston Wedding Studio has been planning weddings in Charleston for over ten years.
She enjoys all aspects of planning and loves seeing your dream come to life. Details, organization, and planning are her happy place. While a Yankee by birth, Laura has been living in Charleston for over 15 years. “Having grown up up North, I understand that there are some differences in the traditions between Northern weddings and Southern weddings and how to join those traditions together,” she says.
Laura and her husband have been married 8 years (Beth was her wedding florist!) Laura is surrounded by a houseful of boys – a husband, two sons, and two dogs, so weddings are her favorite outlet for some “girl time.” Laura’s loves in life are her family, planning, Disney, fitness, coffee & wine, and traveling as much as possible.
Like Laura and Beth, I love Disney and weddings! Maybe we can work together some day for a Disney wedding!
How would you describe your style?
We are the perfect balance of whimsy and tradition. Beth’s floral design motto is: “I like big bouquets and I cannot lie” and her flowers are truly a work of art. Her free-flowing creativity shines through in every unique floral arrangement she makes. She embodies the “perfectly imperfect” art of design. Laura’s style is more classic with personalized unique touches inspired by our couples. After working together, we’ve found that our somewhat different styles make for a perfect team. Beth makes Laura dream wilder and brighter and Laura’s love for order keeps Beth in check from time to time!
What do you love most about working in weddings?
We LOVE creating lasting relationships with our couples. Getting to be part of one of the biggest days of their lives is not something that we take lightly. We truly take the time to get to know not only your likes and dislikes, but to hear your stories, laugh and make jokes. In the months (and sometimes years) leading up to their Wedding Day, we truly get to love our couples, so by the time the wedding comes around, saying “farewell” can be hard to do! But luckily, with social media, we get to stay in touch and even watch their family grow! Nothing beats getting pregnancy and baby announcements from our past couples.
After I photograph weddings in Charleston I love watching them grow their family and keeping up with their lives too!
What advice would you give to your couples who are preparing for their wedding day?
There is a middle ground. We find that couples are often bombarded with “platinum” images from weddings with extraordinary budgets. On the flip side of that, there’s a plethora of sites devoted to telling you in order to save money you need to do everything yourself. Worse yet, that you have to have a wedding in a box! Take your ultimate vision for your wedding, the stars and the moon, then deconstruct what of all that is truly important and impacts your overall vision. What represents you as a couple? You don’t have to do it all yourself. You can have a beautifully designed wedding customized exactly to what you want. There *is* a point between outrageous or nothing at all. We will help you find it.
What are your favorite wedding trends right now?
One of our favorite trends right now is non-traditional wedding parties. Want your brother to be your “Man of Honor”? Your dog to be the Best Man? Have a Groomswoman instead of a Groomsman? Your people are your people and we love seeing them standing beside you. There are so many cool ideas out there to integrate and celebrate your non-traditional Bridal Party. We also love a colorful wedding palette. Giving us some creative freedom with pops of color ALWAYS results in something beautiful and unique. While we can certainly appreciate a classical wedding color palette, bringing in some color gives us more room to be imaginative with your design and decor!
Having dogs as part of your wedding party is definitely a trend in the Lowcountry, and I’m loving it!

It is our belief that the planning process should be joyous and enjoyable for the couple. Please don’t buy into the myth that it’s stressful. You’ve already accomplished the hardest part – finding that special person you want to spend forever with, now you just have to plan the party!
