I always get the questions “Why do you love being a Charleston wedding photographer?” or “Why did you decide to become a wedding photographer?”, which aren’t easy answers. I believe there are a lot of reasons that I love what I do. But there are a few reasons that stick out more than the rest.
I love getting to know my couples and building relationships with them.
Surprisingly I used to be a really shy person. I was one of those kids who wouldn’t schedule their doctors appointments because I was scared to talk on the phone. But once I got to college that had to change. I had to grow up! Now, having graduated almost 3 years ago, I have definitely grown into a new person than I was back then. I absolutely love talking to people! Like sometimes you can’t get me to shut up. So getting to meet new couples and really get to know them on another level is one of my favorite things.
As we walk around Downtown Charleston photographing their engagement session, I get to know their favorite foods, what they love to do, where they work, and all kinds of things. And the plus side of this is that on their wedding day, I feel like another bridesmaid! It’s fun for me and you! Building relationships that last is a huge part of my business.
I am a sucker for a good love story.
Aren’t we all? But really, I remember growing up and being fascinated with Disney movies and love stories. I mean, I watched High School Musical over and over again because I loved Troy and Gabriella’s story. I am a hopeless romantic. So when my couples first book with me, I am essentially watching them build their relationship even more so. And they grow so much during this process! It’s one of the most amazing things to see. I get to be such a big part of their wedding day too. It’s such an intimate day and they chose me to be there with them to watch them begin this new journey. I just can’t get over how much I love it.
When my couples first inquire with me, I try to get to know them as much as possible. Two questions I always ask are how they met and how he proposed. I think this tells a lot about the couple! And from there we plan their engagement session where I get to meet them, sometimes for the first time. We talk about their relationship, plans for their big day, and plans for their future. It’s such a happy time and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Photographing weddings is always filled with so much happiness and love.
A lot of times you will find me wiping tears away while watching the first dance, or seeing the groom’s face as his bride walks down the aisle towards him. I can’t help it! Because I get to know my couples so well it’s like I’m watching two old friends get married. And getting to watch mom and dad give their daughter away is always so sweet.
And that is why I love being a wedding photographer in Charleston.
